The European Commission worries that car makers from Germany could seek to export old diesel vehicles removed from German roads under projected tradeoff incentives to oriental European nations, Business Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska stated on Sunday.
Diesel vehicles have come under scrutiny following Volkswagen from 2015 admitted to using illegal software to cheat emissions tests, sparking a scandal that’s cost it more than $27 billion in penalties and fines.
Germany’s environment ministry has said it would try to conquer resistance for the new exhaust filtering systems that were expensive from car manufacturers.

“Exports would mean pushing the atmosphere quality problem by the west to the east,” Bienkowska advised the Tagesspiegel newspaper in comments to be published on Monday. “The German government’s plan to prevent driving bans could intensify the issue.”
